I finally feel recovered enough to blog about
the fabulous time I had at Plus North this year (yes I know it was almost a
month ago, but that is how much of a wonderful time I had).
I can’t believe I hadn't been before, it was fantastic. For those
of you that don’t know Plus North is an annual fashion extravaganza where brands,
bloggers and curvy ladies all
come together and truly celebrate style at any size. There was some great brands with stalls and
fashion shows but my favourite part was meeting all the like minded fashion
lovers.
This year’s event was held in The Baracoa Bar in Leeds, so we set off early on the Friday morning to make the almost 400 mile trip from sunny Cornwall to Leeds; the event started early afternoon on Saturday 30th August.
As a chunky chick that is comfortable with my body, my ever changing style and in the knowledge that I am almost always going to be the biggest lady in the room (and 90% of the time the biggest person in the room) as a rule I don’t get too nervous about going to events and meeting new people because of how I look. However a few of the fabulous ladies I met on the day explained they normally would get extreme anxiety over this kind of event because of their size / clothing however they all said that they felt extremely welcomed at plus north. I have to say anyone who didn't go to the event because they felt like this next year you have to go there is no judgement just support.
Many of the ladies who attended (including myself) did not meet societies standard of beauty ( #effyourbeautystandards ) however I have never seen so many gorgeous women in one place in my whole life. I have to admit I did fan girl slightly over some of the ladies who attended as they are my blogging hero's or part of my instagram favourites. So many positive and confident role models for all women out there not only expressing them self in such a creative way but proving to the world that big is beautiful (so is small but before anyone thinks I’m a hater).
There was so many beautiful women strutting their stuff on the
catwalk, the other thing I really loved because of the wide range of
brands there was something for every taste from super glam, to grunge to
lingerie! I watched all but two of the shows (I was upstairs trying on some fab dresses
by apples and pears) and what I loved far more than the beautiful clothes was
the feeling and the vibe in the room every model was cheered approved and
celebrated for being amazing (and much braver than me).
oh before I go anywhere I have to talk about the amazing raffle with the super
awesome prizes such as vouchers, dresses, make up brushes, bras and so much more
(I won three prizes and a haul will be up on my YouTube channel soon).
In the evening the hubby came with me and even though the venue staff wasn't the greatest we still had an amazing time. I got to talk to some of my favourite
bloggers and finally got time to sit down with the amazing Emma (it's Em) and
have a lovely chat which felt like she was and old friend rather than the
actual truth that this had been the first time we had met.
My only regret on the whole event was I was unable to attend the Sunday, the
team did such an fantastic job and I truly cannot wait till next year (I’m just
hoping it doesn't take 11 hours in the car next time).
Katy xxx
